An Electric 500???

I'm not sure how we missed it, but back in March Reuters reported that Chrysler announced their intention to bring an all-electric Fiat 500 to the US at the same time they canceled plans for a hybrid version of the Ram pickup.

This move seems to be consistent the apparent Chrysler strategy to downsize their current truck-heavy lineup.

No real details like price or range have been released about the plug-in 500, but Autoblog reported that, "We do know that the powerplant will be comprised of three main systems – an advanced lithium-ion battery, high-power electric powertrain module and an EV control unit to manage overall power flow. The 500EV will be developed and engineered at Chrysler's headquarters in Auburn Hills, Michigan."

Availability isn't expected to be until at least a year after the Nissan Leaf debuts in December 2010.

How far would an electric car have to be able to go on a full charge before you would consider buying one?
